Placentia finalizes its ban on pot-related businesses

Placentia has prohibited all marijuana-related businesses and activities, including home delivery, the City Council has decided.

Mayor Pro Tem Chad Wanke opposed the ban approved by the other four council members on Tuesday.

“I would have voted yes if we had allowed people to receive deliveries in the city and allowed one outdoor plant per residence in conformance with Proposition 64,” Wanke said. “Additionally by disallowing all deliveries we ignore the needs of our most vulnerable residents who may be bedridden, home bound or too sick or infirm to drive and who do not have anyone to drive them to a dispensary.”

The ordinance was approved in response to California voters legalizing recreational use of marijuana in November; anyone 21 and older can use and carry up to an ounce of cannabis. Cities may regulate businesses and land use.
